At Soakism, we like to be transparent about what goes into your bath treats and their packaging! We are proud to source and only use cruelty-free/vegan ingredients that help our bodies and our planet feel great!

Here is a list of ingredients we use, and how they can positively benefit us, along with a list of eco-conscious materials we use to package our products!

The Base

Sodium Bicarbonate - has a grandparent ever given you the top-tip of using a baking powder paste to clean with? That’s because sodium bicarbonate is so great at dissolving dirt/grease! It is also key in forming the solid-yet-dissolvable bath bomb texture we all know and love!

The Fizz

Citric Acid - this ingredient causes the fizz that bath bombs are known for! It also helps to clean and repair skin!

The Oils

Oils play an essential part in bath bombs! They have countless skin-loving properties, and they feel great too!

Sweet Almond Oil

We use this oil in bath bombs.

Sweet almond oil is a nourishing ingredient that provides numerous skin benefits due to its richness in fatty acids, vitamins, and minerals. It is an excellent moisturiser that deeply penetrates the skin, leaving it hydrated and nourished, while also containing vitamin E, which helps to protect and nourish the skin. Additionally, sweet almond oil helps to improve skin tone and texture by reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and can soothe and calm inflamed or irritated skin due to its anti-inflammatory properties. It can also fade scars and blemishes, while reducing redness and irritation associated with acne. Furthermore, sweet almond oil has natural sun-protective properties that can shield the skin from the harmful effects of UV rays. Overall, sweet almond oil is a versatile ingredient that can benefit many different skin types and concerns, including preventing premature aging with the help of its Omega-3 fatty acids content.

Apricot Kernel Oil

Apricot kernel oil is a light and gentle oil that has many benefits for the skin. It is rich in fatty acids, vitamins, and antioxidants, which makes it an excellent ingredient for nourishing and protecting the skin. Apricot kernel oil can help to moisturise and soothe the skin, making it a great choice for dry, sensitive, and mature skin types. It also contains antioxidants that can help to prevent damage from free radicals and UV radiation, and has anti-inflammatory properties that can help to reduce redness and inflammation. Additionally, apricot kernel oil can help to improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and has been shown to have a brightening effect on the skin. Overall, apricot kernel oil is a versatile ingredient that can benefit a wide range of skin types and concerns.

Avocado Oil

We use this oil in our Avosoak range.

Avocado oil is a nourishing oil that is rich in fatty acids, antioxidants, and vitamins, making it a versatile ingredient that can benefit many different skin types and concerns. It moisturizes and nourishes the skin deeply and provides long-lasting hydration, thanks to its high absorption rate. Vitamins A and E found in avocado oil help to nourish and protect the skin, improve its elasticity, and prevent wrinkles and fine lines from forming. Additionally, avocado oil has anti-inflammatory properties that can soothe and calm irritated or inflamed skin, while antioxidants protect the skin from free radical damage. Avocado oil can also enhance wound healing due to its high content of vitamin E and oleic acid and has natural sun-protective properties that can help to shield the skin from UV damage.

Jojoba Oil

We use this oil in our whipped soaps.

Jojoba oil is a highly beneficial oil for the skin. It acts as an excellent moisturiser by deeply penetrating the skin without leaving any greasy residue, owing to its resemblance to the natural oils produced by our skin. Its anti-inflammatory properties are also helpful in reducing redness, swelling, and other signs of inflammation on the skin. It is capable of regulating oil production by closely imitating the natural oils in our skin, making it equally suitable for both dry and oily skin types. In addition, jojoba oil can combat the bacteria that cause acne, unclog pores, and soothe the skin by reducing itching, dryness, and other skin irritations. Overall, jojoba oil is a versatile and luxurious ingredient that can provide various skin benefits for many different skin types and concerns.

The Smell

Scent is super important in Soakism products! We make each bath bomb with aromatherapy in mind, creating blends of fragrances that compliment specific mood goals. We use both fragrance oils and essential oils in our products. Using fragrance oils allows us to explore a wide range of scents, while essential oils are brilliant for natural aromas. Please find specific product pages to see which products contain which oils.

The Foam

We are an SLS-free company! If you don't know what SLS is, it is an inexpensive foaming ingredient that is irritable to eyes, skin & lungs. We take great care in finding the finest ingredients to use in our products, that are both safe and beneficial to skin, and we avoid all hash-on-skin ingredients.

We use two different foaming agents in our bath bombs, which help to combat grease - be sure to check out each product’s description to see what we use for each product!

SCI - Dubbed as ‘baby foam’, this extremely gentle-to-skin, palm-free foamer, made from coconut oil, creates a thick cream on the surface of bath-water. It’s an ingredient that lathers excellently under pressure, so you can make lots of gentle little bubbles simply by placing your baby foam bath bomb under high-pressured running water - like a shower-head, for example! SCI leaves skin feeling soft and loved.

SLSA - The King of foamers! SLSA is a gentle foaming ingredient created from coconut & palm oils. It is used in many bath bombs on the market today, notorious for its thick foam - so SLSA bath bombs are perfect for those who wish to see a bit more foam and bath art in their water! SLSA leaves skin feeling silky and soft! Our SLSA is sourced from manufacturers that create SLSA using sustainable, RSPO certified palm.

Look out for the fancy & scientific names in the ingredients sections of our products, to see which products contains which foamer.

SCI = sodium cocoyl isethionate

SLSA = sodium lauryl sulfoacetate

The Colour

All Soakism bath bombs & whipped soaps use lab-approved water-soluble dyes, that disperses in warm water! This means no tub stains, hoorah! We do, however, suggest that you handle your bath treats as little as possible to avoid temporary skin-staining!

Spreading the love (and oils)

We use an emulsifier in our bath bombs called Polysorbate 80 - but don’t let the scientific name put you off! Polysorbate is a vegan, vegetable-derived ingredient that’s basically there to make sure all the skin-loving oils disperse around your bath-tub properly. Some more pros of this ingredient is that it prevents tub staining and also acts as an anti-slip agent!

Allergens

Allergens occur in fragrance oils, although they are very small amounts. If you would like to find out which products contains which allergens, please look at the ingredients in each product's description. You will find allergens at the very end of the ingredient list. For example, 'Linalool', 'Limonene', 'Citronellol'.

Let’s Wrap Things Up Here!

Here’s what we use to safely send your goodies off to you!

  • Biofilm - the plastic-free solution to cellophane - it’s compostable, made from wood pulp, and it locks in your bath bomb’s scent for longer!

  • Gum tape - also plastic-free and used to hold boxes together.

  • Thermally-printed ingredients & postage labels - there’s no need to use fancy stickers when it’s all going to end up in the bin! This way, you can recycle all of our packaging, and really enjoy the product itself - it’s what’s inside that counts!

  • Kraft pouches - used to hold your bath dusts! These have a non-plastic viewing window as well as a starch-based seal (rather than a plastic one). Pretty cool!

  • Biodegradable packing peanuts - these blue beauties magically disappear in water, so there’s no more taking up unnecessary room in your bins!

  • We also sometimes use recycled shredded cardboard!
